1.) Check your Business details

Check all your details including name, address and phone number – match on your website and Google My Business. Google My Business is the place to manage your local presence on Google.

Do not be tempted to add keywords to your business name in GMB.

2.) Optimise URL, title tags, headers, meta description, and content.

Firstly make sure that your website is being crawled by Google. You can check this using the Search Console tool, or another SEO analysis tool if you have one.

Write your content for the reader and add location-based keywords in all of these places: title and header tags and meta description.

3.) Add UTM Tracking Codes

It seems like a simple enough step, but we often forget to add the tracking codes. This is very important when it comes to reporting and analytics because you need accurate data. You will then be able to distinguish if your visitor converting from local SEO or another source.

4.) Add location pages to your website

If you have more than a single location then you should also add “location” pages to your website. This is an easy way to let users find out more about the location of each location and to give them directions if they need them.

Add pages that have information related specifically to customers from that area, such as opening hours, offers and testimonials. Google Maps are great for adding an extra touch of detail to your website.

5.) Check Attributes

To make updates to your listing attributes, log in first with a Google My Business account. Next, you need to click the info tab on the left-hand side.

In this section, you can see all of your GMB attributes. Including specific attributes for many categories, so make sure to check them and add any additional ones!

6.) Check Categories

To check your GMB categories, go to Google My Business. Click on the “Categories” tab. This will show you a list of all the business’ Categories and Subcategories that are set up in Google Maps. You can use this page to add or remove new categories for your business if needed.

Using GMB features like categories is key for local SEO success. It’s important to check which Google my Business Categories you’re using.
